Stopping in Malaysia was not part of the plan, but as always things change and we decided to make our way to the southern islands of Thailand crossing Malaysia by land. We landed in Kuala Lumpur, a mega capital of Asia.
It is home to a mix of cultures and many religions cohabit the city—you might find a Chinese temple next to a Hindu one or even a Muslim mosque. It’s nice to see them all live together harmoniously.

We enjoyed the night markets with many exotic food options as well as gigantic malls with all your typical western commodities. It was the perfect chance for us to pretend we were back to normal life and go to the movies to watch the last Star Wars film.

Recommended by a friend, we decided to go up to Georgetown in the Penang island which is quite a contrast from most asian cities or towns. It’s got a colonial heritage and the buildings have certain European style and deep Chinese influence with high ceilings and gorgeous tiles. Strolling around old town, we enjoyed trying different foods like the famous iced green noodles and beans which look gross but actually taste delicious and refreshing under the boiling sun.

One of the landmarks of this town is an old blue mansion you can visit. It’s a beautiful property with a lot of history and even some movies have been shot in its grounds. Walking inside it kinda transports you into different times. Georgetown is literally covered on street art—there’s actually one artist that was commissioned to decorate the town so you can easily stumble upon many of his pieces.

Even though we only spent a short time in the country we’re happy we stopped by and got to take in some of its highlights.
Great pics!
