Culinary and surfing culture in Lima

Next stop was Lima, the enticing capital of Peru. We enjoyed cruising around Miraflores and Barranco neighborhoods, both with coastal boardwalks.

We were lucky enough to go to Club Waikiki, THE surf club in Peru—where it all started. We have to thank Julio, who has been a long-time member, for inviting us. The place is located right in front of the Miraflores pier and has easy access to one of the breaks. Members have their surfboards in the board room where Mamico has been taking care of them for over 30 years. Many surf competitions have happened here and there is plenty of commemorations to local ‘tablistas’. In Peru surfing is called ‘correr olas’ which means to run or ride waves.

This was a perfect starting point for our surfing weeks in the coast. In fact, we also bought our new boards in Lima.

Of course, we couldn’t leave this city without trying its food, and we certaintly enjoyed having the full culinary experience. We also celebrated our 7 year anniversary so it was a great excuse to treat ourselves to a delightful meal at Astrid&Gastón, the first restaurant of renowned peruvian chef Gastón Acurio.
