If there’s the will, there’s a way.

I have to admit I never pictured this day in my head. The day I’d be typing the below line:

Today I’m quitting my job to travel the world.

Even though you know it’s going to happen eventually, you just don’t really see it coming. Quite frankly, I would have laughed at anyone’s face if this had been brought up to a conversation a few years back.

Like no F way.

Here we are though. After two years in Miami and more than four in San Francisco, Sarah and I are off to the next adventure. Probably the most unexpected, unpredictable and wildest of all. And we couldn’t be more stoked.
These last 6 years have been beyond spectacular. I still can’t find enough words to describe this unbelievable period of our lives. A lot of “werk, werk, werk” yes, but also a lot of traveling, airports, miles, camping, bbq’s, happy hours, a bit of fear and a lot, a lot of laughter.

Looking back, it’s truly amazing how much one can change and learn after being thrown out there—putting yourself out of your comfort zone isn’t a cliché, but pure and raw reality.

And undeniably, the biggest chunk of this growth comes from the people you meet along the way. They are everything to you: friends, coworkers, teachers, advisors and most importantly, your extended family. Every time you move from one place to another this family keeps growing, in quantity and quality. There’s so much stuff you don’t know or expect when you’re off to a journey like this that all you have to do is embrace every moment. The good and the bad.

And so, what’s up with us now?

The answer is plain and simple: we’re taking extended time off. Not because we felt we were burned out or hated our jobs, or we didn’t like our life or even because San Francisco wasn’t feeling like the right place to be anymore.

Nope. None of the above. Completely the opposite. Believe me when I say we loved all about it.

But —there’s always a ‘but’— some of the things we’re constantly dreaming of these days aren’t really compatible with our professional careers. Things we’ve always wanted to experience can’t be possible given our current life setup. And there are moments in life when your instinct calls asking to push the pause button and alienate yourself from your sweet and comfortable reality so you’re able to think clearly and move onwards the right way.
So we had the option to either keep cruising or to shake it all up and go follow our gut feeling. We went for the latter.

There’s not going to be such thing as a home base for us during the next year. We’ll be roaming around the globe trying to slow down mind and soul. With no expectations or superfluous goals.

Just us two, off to the unknown.

Aleix
